This Sunday we begin a new series:  "The Harmony of Christian Faith and Scientific Pursuit." Somehow there is a perception that Christian faith does not harmonize with science. In this series, I will show how science and Christian faith are two books with the same author that give different perspectives on the creation. God is Creator and Redeemer. This is the message of the Bible. The message of science is how this marvelous creation holds together, and expands and/or contracts. I will preach this series this Sunday, June 11, July 2, July 9, July 30, August 6, and August 13. Our message on Sunday is titled, "Two Books: Both True?"

Next Sunday we celebrate Father's Day and the Installation of Office Bearers.

YOU ARE INVITED . . . HOPE COMMUNITY CHURCH will hold its third worship service on Sunday, July 9 at 4:00 p.m., using the facilities of the First Church of the Nazarene, 18210 Clark Rd, Lowell, Indiana.

This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, the day the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples and launched the Church of Jesus Christ. We will travel to the south stairs of the temple with its numerous mikvahs or ceremonial baths. There we will visualize the place where the Holy Spirit empowered the disciples to change the world through starting the church.

Sunday we celebrate Ascension Day. Jesus died, rose, and then ascended to heaven where He rules over creation from His throne above! We’ll look at what practical implications this has for Christians. If you are not a Christian, please consider this message as a peek into what Christians believe, and why they live like they do. If Jesus reigns and rules, as Christians believe, then Christians can live their life with incredible purpose and confidence.

Next Sunday Pastor Siang Hup and I will be in Albany, New York on behalf of the Home Missions Committee to visit a Burmese congregation that wants to enter the CRC. A representative from the local classis will also participate. Mark Morris will bring the message.

SUMMER SERMON SERIES – This summer I will teach a series on how science and the Christian faith fit together. Some believe science takes precedence over scripture. For those, the Bible is more of a fairy tale that warms our hearts. Others believe it's scripture that takes precedence over science. For those, the Bible lays out an exact time table for creation and humanity. But what if the two fit nicely together and inform each other? What if one reveals God in a general creative way, and the other reveals Him in a special redemptive way? My science friends may feel free to pass along their perplexing questions at the intersection of Bible and science, and/or their observations about how the two fit well together.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND – Thank you to all the Mothers and Grandmothers of Pathway Church! We love you dearly and are grateful for all the many things you do for the children of this church. May God bless you during this special weekend!

This Sunday we will look at the Biblical example of the ideal woman as described in Proverbs 31. Many other women have been mentioned or described earlier in Proverbs. In one section, a dad instructs his son on some of the women he should avoid. In addition, dad advises his son to seek after a woman named wisdom. “Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. . . . . Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.” Now at the end of the book on wisdom, the ideal woman is held up as a model to a young son who has become a king. He’s counseled by his mom to seek this kind of woman. Let’s relish and long for this ideal! Prepare to be surprised over the earthly mom speaking the words of God who gives this advice:  “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” ~Proverbs 31:30-31

CONNECTIONS CLASS – We will be meeting at the office this coming Wednesday evening, May 17, at 7:00 PM. If you are interested in membership at Pathway, this is the class for you. Pastor Joel will host. It will be a lively evening of getting to know others considering membership as well. This class does not constitute an obligation to join. It’s an inquiry into whether Pathway might be a right church home for you. Connections class is also a prerequisite to Profession of Faith. Please RSVP to the church office if you would like to attend, (219) 558-0573 or pathwayadmin@pathwaycrc.org.
