Joel's Weekly Heads Up
By Pastor Joel
October 13, 2017

On Sunday we continue in our current sermon series, "It's a Revolution." Our message is "Hopeless Matthew" and is based on Luke 5:27-32. It's a weakness for many, if not most, raised in a covenant environment, sharing our faith with those who've left the faith or are new to Christian faith. Today we watch Matthew in action. Matthew strayed and sold his soul, but Jesus called him back. Watch him go on a mission for Jesus! And join him in doing the same.

SUNDAY is Pathway's Red Cross Blood Drive (October 15) from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at Crown Point Christian School. We could use a few more donors. You may schedule your appointment before or after the service at http://www.redcrossblood.org/, search the date or location or you may contact Terri Schaaf at (708) 259-0749. Your blood donation is urgently needed! Please sign up!

Following worship THIS Sunday, October 15, we we will be having a Mandatory Safety Training Meeting in the Nursery/Music Room. We will discuss safety procedures, ways to lead the kids well, and answer any questions you might have. This meeting is for ALL volunteers (teachers, leaders, all helpers both adult and student age) in Pathway Kids, Nursery, Youth Groups, Catechism, and Family Night who did not attend a training meeting last year. If you would like to serve in any children's ministries in the future, please attend! Your service to the kids of Pathway is greatly appreciated!

IT'S THE WEEKEND! PLEASE DISPLAY YOUR PATHWAY SIGNS.

TOMORROW, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7, from 8:00 a.m. - noon is our Faith and Action Firewood Opportunity. Calling everyone 7th grade and up to assist with splitting, packaging and stacking of firewood at the Crete wood splitting site. Come when you can; leave when you must. The wood lot doesn't have an exact address. It is best to use Universal Steel's address located at 225 W. Burville Road in Crete for GPS. Upon your arrival to Universal Steel, follow these directions:  At Hartman and Burville Road, go South on Hartman. Hartman dead ends into a field . . . turn right on a stone road. You will go back about 1/4 mile and then turn right through a gate and go all the way to the back of the lot. Look for Faith and Action signs to guide you!

On Sunday we continue in our current sermon series, "It's a Revolution." Our message is "When Fixing is Not Enough" and is based on Luke 5:17-26. Do we really want to get well or do we just want the pain to stop? Again our nation was hit by another tragedy, and the temptation is to pray “Stop the bad stuff, Lord. Give us the good stuff.” However, what if Jesus answers our deepest needs rather than simply eliminating the pain? Remember, He came to usher in the season of the Lord’s favor! This is more than stopping the bad stuff and giving us the good. It’s fixing our greatest problem.

BUILDING FUND OFFERING THIS SUNDAY – "There is a time for everything," according to Ecclesiastes 3:1, "and a season for every activity under heaven.” Your leadership and building teams believe "the time to build" is getting closer.          choices for giving: General Fund, Building Fund, Mission Fund, and
         Benevolent Fund.

On Sunday we continue in our current sermon series, "It's a Revolution." Our message is "The Leper" and is based on Luke 5:12-14. In Luke 4 we learned that Jesus came to usher in a time of the Lord's favor, a season of grace, mercy, and goodness. In Luke 5 and 6, He called leaders to help Him with the task. Sunday we study how He begins to make this season of favor come true in the lives of people as He preaches grace to the sinners, and heals the sick, blind, and lame. Buckle your seat belts! The kingdom has come! And it still comes today. The question is are we experiencing and living into this season of the Lord's favor, or are we living busy, dry, unfulfilling North American materialistic lives?

Last Sunday we began a new sermon series titled, "It's a Revolution." Our message on Sunday is "The Leaders," and is based on Luke 5:1-11 and Mark 1:16-20. Jesus came to bring a revolution. However, the revolution is rooted in what God already did. Luke makes sure to show Jesus as the new Moses who then conveys his authority to the leaders, the disciples. The disciples were his agents operating under his authority, bringing his message. And so are we, Christians! Do you bring the correct message? Do you do so under his authority?

Sunday is Name Tag Sunday, we will receive an offering for Faith and Action and have the privilege of witnessing infant baptism.

On Sunday, I will begin a new sermon series titled, "It's a Revolution." Our message Sunday is Home Town Announcement -- Then, a Riot with Intent to Kill." Our scripture passages are Luke 4:14-30.

In this first message of the sermon series, a hick town guy announces to his peeps that he’s going to change the world. They blow up on him, but he escapes. That’s Sunday’s scripture and message. Over the next few weeks, we will explore just how radical and visionary Jesus’ plan is, not just for them, but for us NOW. You are invited to join the revolution as led by Jesus and told by Luke. I will dip into some Jewish rabbinical teaching stuff that shows just how amazing Jesus is, and why we should want to follow Him.

It was good to be renewed at our communion service last Sunday. Our next communion service will be October 29. It will also be a youth Sunday musically. There will be a benevolence offering and a fall potluck.

CALLING ALL LADIES FOR AN ASPIRE CONFERENCE – Looking for a night of laughs, girl time and worship? Join us as we attend an Aspire Conference on Sunday, November 12 at Heartland Christian Center in Valparaiso. Doors open at 4:30 pm. Tickets are $20. Sign up on Sunday and purchase tickets at the back information table. We will carpool together; you won’t want to miss it!

SMALL GROUP OPPORTUNITY – Mark Barnes will lead a Sunday afternoon small group starting in late September/early October on the Psalms. This will be an open Bible discussion group. No DVD teaching. It’s open to all ages; no Bible knowledge is needed. Please do bring your Bible! Place and time to be determined. Contact the church office for more Information, (219) 558-0573.

HOPE COMMUNITY CHURCH – You are invited to Hope Community Church's weekly worship service THIS Sunday, September 17 in Lowell. Pastor Joel will bring the message! The services are at 4:00 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 18210 Clark Road, Lowell, Indiana (located directly behind the Strack & Van Til on Rt. 2/Main Street). Drop by for a visit to support this infant congregation.

                          PARK PLACE INTERGENERATIONAL SERVICE –
Planning Meeting on Wednesday, September 20 at 3:00 p.m. at Park Place
                                                         in their meeting room!
                                             (Trudy, receptionist, will direct you!)
We are looking for a couple moms and kids to help with planning.
See Pastor Joel if you are interested.
THE SERVICE PLAN:  The service will be centered on kids, worship songs, and hymns. Most of the service will be singing and/or interactivity worship like reading favorite Bible passages, or reporting on the coolest things we’ve seen God do. There will be a short 10 minute message on a topic for the season. Children with musical gifts of singing and/or instruments are invited to participate. After a 45 minute service, there will be homemade snacks (please Park Place friends!), and games. The goal is to mix young and old, and allow a format for worship that encourages the young in their faith and music development with encouragement from Park Place friends.
                                               Mark the Calendar!
Our first Park Place Service is October 8 at 2:30 pm.

WOMEN'S WEDNESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY – The Women's Wednesday Evening Bible Study will meet Wednesday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. in St. John. We will be discussing The Armor of God by Priscilla Shirer:  All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you — unseen, unheard, yet felt throughout every aspect of your life. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you:  your heart, your mind, your marriage, your children, your relationships, your resilience, your dreams, your destiny. But his battle plan depends on catching you unaware and unarmed. If you're tired of being pushed around and caught with your guard down, The Armor of God study is for you. The Enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion. The Armor of God, more than merely a biblical description of the believer's inventory, is an action plan for putting it on and developing a personalized strategy to secure victory, (7 sessions). We will meet on the first and third Wednesdays.  Please call the church office at (219) 559-0573 if you are interested in joining. We welcome all new and returning women to study with us!!!!

In this 6 session study of II Timothy, Beth Moore will encourage women to guard what God has entrusted to them, further His kingdom by sharing Christ with others, and mentor younger generations of women just as Paul discipled Timothy. Because in moments of joy and hardship, we need each other to stay the course and live a life of faithfulness. We would love to have you join us!
